Carrie Underwood's New Album - ultimately forgettable

Another American Idol veteran returns this week with her second studio album, “Carnival Ride.” Equip with virtually flawless vocals, Carrie Underwood’s newest work meets but does not exceed this writers expectations. The Oklahoma native has already proven herself to the world and has seemed to have reached a comfortable plateau in her career. I couldn’t help but notice the unoriginality of almost every single track. Almost every song seemed like it could have appeared on an album of Rascal Flat’s. This may be due to the similarities of Carries voice with the voice of Gary LeVox. Either way, it’s difficult to ignore.
However, this album like most mediocre productions has its diamonds. This writer’s personal favorite is the slow, personal “I know you wont.” It’s almost impossible not to relate with the lyrics. “Lately you make me feel all I am is a back up plan. I say, "I'm Done," and then you smile at me and I forget everything I said. I buy into those eyes and into your lies.” Carrie's vocals in this song are simply perfect and melodically beautiful in every way. “I told you so” is another jewel amongst the group, and is probably the only song that conveys Underwood’s understanding of classic country music. The lyrics are very relative and Carrie’s vocals are again “simply perfect.”
Carrie’s first single off of the album is by far the shinning star of the batch. “So Small” reminds us not to take life or love for granted, and instead to embrace and cherish it. The lyrics and vocals are undoubtedly heartfelt and sincere. Carrie’s performance in this number is surprisingly and ironically reminiscent of Faith Hill’s work. However I am not turned off by this similarity because I am positive that Carrie pulls it off better than Faith.
All things considered, “Carnival Ride” is full of talented vocals, lyrics, and production but lacks staying power. Every track is predictable and generic. I expect so much more out of Carrie. Like an actual Carnival Ride, this album is momentarily pleasing but ultimately forgettable.

My Fav's-
1. I know you won't
2. So Small
3. I told you so
4. Wheel of the world
